Wattage for Linux

Wattage is a small native battery monitor. It uses GTK 3 and your distribution's
existing desktop libraries instead of carrying a private framework or runtime.

The .deb is for compatible Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint releases. Install it
with your graphical package installer or: sudo apt install ./wattage_*.deb

The .rpm is for compatible Fedora and openSUSE releases. Install with your
distribution's package manager so missing GTK dependencies are resolved.

The .tar.gz works on compatible Linux distributions, including Arch. Extract it
and run usr/bin/wattage, or run ./install.sh to add Wattage to your user account's
applications menu. It copies only the executable, desktop entry, and icon. For
a system installation, an administrator can run sudo ./install.sh --system.
Do not run the application itself as root.

Runtime requirements: 64-bit Linux matching the package architecture, GTK 3.22
or newer, and compatible glibc/libstdc++ versions. This x86_64 release requires
glibc 2.34+ and libstdc++ with GLIBCXX_3.4.29 (GCC 11+). Packages declare the
libraries required by the actual build. A binary built against newer libraries is
not guaranteed to run on an older distribution; rebuilding from source works
with that distribution's own GTK 3 development packages.

Ubuntu/Debian/Mint build dependencies: build-essential cmake pkg-config libgtk-3-dev
Fedora build dependencies: gcc-c++ cmake pkgconf-pkg-config gtk3-devel
openSUSE build dependencies: gcc-c++ cmake pkg-config gtk3-devel
Arch build dependencies: base-devel cmake pkgconf gtk3

Build and test: sh tools/Publish-Linux.sh
Optional packaging tools: dpkg-dev (DEB) and rpm/rpmbuild (RPM).

The expanded view shows live rate and battery details, with a Wh/mAh selector.
The arrow collapses to a compact horizontal strip. Ctrl+M toggles compact mode;
Ctrl+T toggles always on top. Only the selected unit is saved. Window size,
compact mode, pin state, battery selection, and readings are never saved.
Polling pauses while the window is minimized or hidden.

The app prefers X11/XWayland so the always-on-top button works on those desktop
sessions. An explicit GDK_BACKEND choice is respected. Under native Wayland,
GTK cannot request always-on-top; use the desktop's own window-menu option.
The unavailable pin control explains this limitation rather than claiming the
window is pinned. Window-manager behavior can vary.

Battery measurements come from Linux's read-only power_supply interface. Actual
mAh readings are used when the battery provides them; conversions are marked as
estimates when only energy or charge is provided. Some hardware does not expose
a live rate, voltage, or complete capacity information. Missing values remain
unavailable rather than being shown as zero. Multi-battery systems are supported.

Diagnostic previews: wattage --demo=discharging --theme=dark
Other samples: charging, idle, zero-charging, unknown, no-voltage, relative,
multiple, empty, error. Sample-data windows are clearly labeled and never write
preferences. --compact starts compact for that launch only. --version prints the
version without requiring a display. --quit-after=SECONDS is a test-only exit.
